How come?
It all started in November of 2002. One of my skaters made a terrible fall during a race in Heerenveen. Inspection of the skates revealed a so called "bridge" in the rocker of the skate. How come? The answer is quit simple and bewildered: lack of a rocker-machine. After nozing about the different priciples for rocking machines, I decided to build a new machine. My aim was a light and of course accurate machine. I don't want to do all the grinding myself, so the machine must be easy to handle so that skaters can do the grinding themselves.
The machine is not designed for the "heavy stuff". Then you need a machine with automatic movement, a dust collector and preferably the option to grind the left and right skate at the same time. The company started in 2003 and the first production took place in 2004.
The robust machine was developed in close co-operation with topskaters and nowaydays almost all World Cup teams, inclucding the ones from Italy, the Netherlands, Canada, Finland, Germany and Norwegian use the Mobilap machine to grind their skates. In addition, the Organising Committee of the 2006 and the 2010 Olympic Winter Games bought and used the Mobilap during these Events.
Principle of design
The machine operates with templates. Due to the small distance between the skate and the template the radius-profile in the template is copied very accurately to the blade.
Much attention is paid to the clamping unit and the positioning of the skate with respect to the template. The result is a minimum loss of material. Because of this, the skates can be grinded frequently and you can always skate on the best rocker.
The construction is compact and light weight. The machine meets 60x28x18 cm and the net weight amounts to 10 kg.
